Bilock Exclusive™ - New Improved Bilock Releases To The Market

$

0
Bilock Extreme Security products just release the newest addition to their product line.

A completely new rendition of the fabulous extreme security mechanical key system.

This new update to the well-known Bilock high security restricted key systems, answers many of the criteria discussed industry wide by customers, hobbiest forums, locksmith industry forums, engineers and government and military experts.

The new line is called Bilock Exclusive™.

This new design, actually increases the security of each new cylinder while removing the trigger interactive element.

Colors for the key heads are still pretty much the same, with 21 color choices comprising 3 parts, effectively offering about 9250 color combinations.

A new style of head with the three interlocking parts is still used.

The product still uses the innovative Quick-Change-Core technology that Bilock is famous for.

Dealers will probably need a little retraining in the construction of the new cylinders, but key creation is identical and used with existing machinery, so no new tool equipment to purchase other than the new keying kit and cores/cylinder bodies.

We believe that existing cores (from older systems - New Generation) can be used in the newer cylinder bodies, but the new cores cannot fit into the older cylinder bodies.

This new product increases the patent protection for the Bilock product for another 15 years while increasing the security of each core by doubling the side-bar blocking pins, directly making the ability to pick, impression or bump the lock virtually impossible.

The introduction of Mifare™ chips into keyheads is also now possible for connecting with electronic access control products that might exist in different customers networks.

Release date to the USA and North America markets are unclear at this time, but we expect to offer the newer system by next summer.

Goji - Crowdfunded Wireless Smartphone Controlled Deadbolt Fails To Launch

I'm not sure if you have seen or know about the Goji Smart lock that was being crowdfunded via multiple separate crowdfunding sites in the last couple of years, but a report out a couple of days ago indicates that this particular product has failed to launch.

The Smart Lock market has been evolving for a number of years now and according to sources, is expected to rise from the current fledgling $8 Billion market to $120 Billion by 2025.

There are a number of entrants that have evolved in recent years and we have written about a few of them. Products like the August Smartlock, the Lockitron and others. We have found that many of these "new breed" of stand alone wireless smart locks are being developed by entrepeneurs who lack industry knowledge, experience and longevity.

The large industry players like Assa-Abloy, Yale, Schlage, Kwikset, Master and others who have been in the security product manufacturing industry for a great many years, are also firmly entrenched in the Smart Lock market. But the difference between these industry stalwarts and the current breed of new entrepeneurs has much to do with their successes developed over many years of R&D, interaction with their customers and tried and proven manufacturing practises that continue to produce the high-quality requested by the consumer driven market.

Goji, obviously was seen to have merit and raised about $800,000.00 through multiple crowdfunding sites including Indiegogo and Fundable.

This news is not surprising really. there are many entrants to the smart lock market that appear to not have done their due diligence and market feasibility studies prior to launch. Goji had developed a promising looking product that operated with Android and iOS operating systems, but I suggest that the actual integration of these sophisticated smart phone operating systems proved too much for the Goji team to master.

Goji CEO Gabriel Bestard-Ribas is quoted in a letter written earlier this week,

"Hello ,
This is the hardest email I have ever written, but I need to let you know that Goji is going out of business. In the next few days you will receive a letter from our lawyer with the formal communication about this.
We’ve had several ups and downs since we started in 2013, and have overcome many technical challenges, but the most recent hurdle is insurmountable: our software development vendor closed their company. They were months behind schedule on our project, and we had gown increasingly concerned that they were not going to be able to complete the work within an acceptable time frame and budget. We met with them to discuss the situation, and a few days later they abruptly closed the business, laying off all of their employees and bringing our product development efforts to a halt.
Goji backers Facebook PageNow we are facing not only the large delay in delivering Goji, but also the immense challenges of replacing a team of nearly 20 engineers, bringing that new team up to speed, and actually finishing the work. This situation has been more than what our company can endure at the development, reputation, and financial fronts. Given this situation, our legal team has advised us that bankruptcy is our only option.
I want to thank you for all your help, support, and patience while we worked to bring Goji to market. You were a part of our dream to build Goji, and now it has to come to an end due to this unfortunate situation.
All I can say is that we fought with all our heart until the last minute. We are so thankful that you have stood with us, and we are deeply sorry for this final outcome.
Please expect another correspondence from our bankruptcy attorney"

Bump Keys Made With 3D Printer - Criminals Going High Tech

Happy New Year and welcome to 2016.

Bump keys have been in the news for a few years now and the increasing sales of our Bilock Extreme Security products attests to this.

As pictured here, the Bilock New Generation core is truly the first 100% bump proof pin tumbler product of it's kind.

Australian Lock Co PTY LTD are the manufacturer of this high security range of cylinders, expertly designed and produced to be able to fit in many leading brands of hardware.

That means, if you currently have or own a Schlage, Marks, Corbin, Lockwood, Yale, Sargent and many other quality brands of hardware products, you can purchase Bilock cylinders that will fit into these brands.

We offer a range of high quality LSDA brand deadbolts, knob sets, lever sets in ANSI/BHMA Grade 1, 2 and some 3 level quality. We choose LSDA because they are produced by an American lock and hardware distributor who offers up to 10 year warranties on many of their products and because the products are very well made. We install our own hand built Bilock cylinders within the hardware. We build all our Bilock systems in-house using state-of-the-art computerised master keying technology.
All cores are keyed up by hand, for quality assurance. All products are tested completely prior to leaving our workshop.

We recently came across a video on Youtube that shows a fellow, presumably in Europe, who proceeds to bump open a typical high-security pin tumbler cylinder found there. He shows the actual working keys first, then shows the bump key he created on a 3D printer and bumps the cylinder in his hand multiple times. View the video after the break.

Using a bump key is frighteningly simple and painless to create using conventional metal keys and a warding file or Pippin file, but many would be creators often do not have access to the suitable keyblanks or files used to make these non-destructive lock bypass tools.

Enter the 3D printer. There are many brands of 3D printers coming to market nowadays and with prices continuing to fall for them, more and more people are getting into the 3D printing craze. Creating the desired key way profile and setting the parameters for the suitable chamber depths is a cinch. This means that anyone with access to such a device can create their desired Bump Key in minutes and without having to source keyblanks and files. Or simply creating a file on your computer and taking a disk to FEDEX or UPS (various locations) can save you the expense of buying your own 3D printer. then you simply pay the small sum charged by FEDEX or UPS for them to produce the items on your behalf.

Because you created the bump keys on a 3D printer, they will probably work more often than a hand carved version and they can be easier to handle/operate.

Now you have your 3D printed bump key, you can surreptitiously open and re-lock any similar type of lock that uses the keyway you produced. I say open and re-lock because the effect of unlocking a door with no damage and then re-locking the same door (assuming it is using a deadbolt) will leave no hint of break in. This becomes a problem for occupiers/home owners/ tenants because they have no way to tell if they have been broken into until they gain entry themselves and that directly leads to  exacerbating the problem, if they put their key into the contravened lock cylinder.

Insurance companies are renowned for refusing to pay a claim when there is no sign of forced entry.

Or simply purchase one of our Bilock Extreme Security cylinders or complete deadbolts using unique color coded and copy proof keys and never, ever be concerned about lock bumping or picking of your dwelling.

Masters Home Improvement Centers To Close 63 Stores Across Australia - Big Box Retailer fails To Capture Market Share

Masters Home Improvement Centers, the joint venture between Australian based Woolworths (supermarkets) and USA based Lowes Home Improvement Stores, announce the closing of their stores.

According to a survey by Canstar who surveyed more than 2000 consumers, the quantity of complaints has proven insurmountable for the joint venture to succeed.

Some of the complaints include...

‘THE STAFF ARE UNHELPFUL’
• Staff can be very vague about products and where they are in the store.
• It is sometimes hard to find staff to help you in our local store.
• Staff unhelpful and don’t know their products
• Staff are not that helpful, can be hard to find things.
• Mistakes at check-out with a mistake made on most visits.
• Some of the staff in the gardening section need horticulture experience, especially to give advice about plants.
• It can be hard to find staff for advice on hardware products.
• Customer service is poor. Not as helpful or available as Bunnings.
• Not enough staff in the late afternoon, evenings.
• Not enough staff.
• No staff to help you.
• Couldn’t find a salesperson to help for ages.
• It was difficult to find what I was looking for and no staff were available to help me, so I had to roam around until I found what I needed.
• The staff there are not helpful. They are good at talking or consulting but don’t help to lift or move the goods I bought. They are so lazy. At last I have to move the BBQ and furniture I bought by myself. Nobody helped me. They gathered together talking and chatting. They are so lucky to get this kind of job.
• Not a lot of assistance.
• Checkout operator was not particularly friendly.
• Trying to find a staff member to help took a very long time.
• Some of supervisory staff are autocratic.
• Was hard to find a staff member.
• Staff service is very poor below standard.
• Service can sometimes be slack.
• Staff rude — don’t understand sizing.
• Sometimes difficult to find a staff member.
• Not enough floor staff help.
• Have had a problem with click-and-collect once because staff couldn’t find the order. Would have been much quicker to find it myself in store.
• Occasionally can be hard to find someone to help me.
• Sometimes check-out service is not so good.
• The item was delivered at 8pm at night after several phone calls to see where it was — put on the wrong truck.

‘THE RANGE IS LIMITED’
• Poor quality of vegetable seedlings especially during the early part of the week as if they have sold out over the weekend and re-stocked.
• They sell too much Asian made poor quality things.
• Can’t find items, as they are not in a sensible order. Too many products that are out of category for a hardware store.
• The garden section needs more staff to keep the plants at premium. More variety of plants.
• They didn’t have everything.
• Limited range.
• Hard to locate what you’re looking for.
• It’s a little pricey with some items, it could sell a lot more plants if they weren’t so dear. And there are no trees planted in the car park, so there will never be any shade.
• Limited range, limited counters, not well organised, limited staff.
• Poor online catalogue with terrible ‘search’ system.
• Plants a bit dear.
• They had the wrong price at the self-service check-out.
• Lots of cheap and nasty rebadged brands.
• Items are not grouped together.
• The store layouts are terrible and they don’t feel like a proper hardware store.
• Limited range of product.
• There is not much choice with cleaning products and equipment.
• Some stock was out.
• Limited product brands.
• Prices are a bit steep.
• Many products more expensive than main competitor.
• Not all brands stocked.
• Some everyday items are very expensive compared to other retailers, garden range is bad and expensive.
• Range is rubbish overpriced and not really a hardware store where you can get real tool which will last a lifetime and not need to be replaced every six months or year so you come back and spend more money.
• Lack of product range and quality of some of the brands.
• Limited products compared to competitor.
• Range of products could be expanded.
• Don’t seem to have enough sales and promotions.
• Limited range.
• A bit expensive.
• Range of products could be better.
• Little more expensive than Bunnings.
• Prices slightly higher than opposition.
‘THE STORES ARE CONFUSING’
• Cafe/rest spot is small.
• Locations not so convenient.
• Feel lost when you walk into a big store and nothing is labelled.
• The lack of delivery options to outlying areas.
• Is a little more expensive than its competitor, store layout is difficult to navigate.
• Wished their stock was where it should have been, as they said they had another four lights there but couldn’t find them.
• Very long queue at the check-out. Very annoying and frustrating.
• Too far to travel.
• Needs to have more signage/larger signage to indicate aisle numbers, etc.
• Trying to find the article searched for is hard as the store is huge and where I would expect to find something is not always in the area expected.
• Layout is hard to manage.
• The check-out at the garden shop is often closed earlier than the rest of the store meaning that you need to push your trolley full of garden items down to the main cash registers.
• Do not like store layout.
• The car park is hard to get in and out.
• Not always conveniently situated.
• So big and a lot of walking if you need something at the other end of the store.
• I thought that the flooring in the store felt slippery it made me nervous to walk around.
• Website almost impossible to find what you want.
• There are not enough stores — I have to drive for 30 miss to get to one.
• Too far from the place that I live.
• Not enough stores around.
• Items show in stock in store when checking this online, but are out of stock when you visit the store straight after.
• The website isn’t very functional and sometimes the products are more expensive than Bunnings.
• Distance to store — Bunnings closer.
‘BUNNINGS IS BETTER’
• Not as good as Bunnings.
• Bunnings remains my personal preference.
• It’s just another Woolworths finger in a pie.
• Not as good a range of products and brands as Bunnings.
• Bunnings seem to do it better. Not sure what it is but the atmosphere and stock is better.
• Not as good as Bunnings. Plant selection poor and often in need of water. Disinterested staff.

The Masters Home Improvement Centers established 63 stores in Australia over the last 10 years. Big Box retailers have plagued the small business sector over the last 25 years, forcing many one-time profitable small and family owned businesses to close due to lower prices (often prices significantly less than small retailers could even purchase for).
This welcome news to small and family owned businesses, means the largest employer (the small business sector) will see a relative uptick in customers and consumers, still in need of quality products and services.

Bunnings, the largest Big Box hardware chain in the Southern Hemisphere continues to march to it's own beat, leading the Australian big box hardware market. No doubt, Bunnings will be quite pleased at this news.

This is the Knock-N-Lock PL554 padlock. This super-intelligent product is designed to work with the unique Knock key fob that allows opening only by authorised fob users.

The unique method of operation requires the technician to contact their home base for their access code, which is usually texted to their cell phone. They enter the code into the knock key and place the fob against the padlock body.

The designated knock pattern signals the padlock to unlock.

Pictured next is the Knock key fob. This is the device used for operating all of the products in the Knock-N-Lock range. Simple to operate and totally secure.

The fob uses a 10 digit keypad and an Enter button. The user contacts their control center who confirms their identity and proceeds to send their unique opening code to the user.

One fob can be used to access multiple devices, so carrying one fob only minimizes the need for multiple devices.

The fob is about 2-5/8" long x about 3/4" wide x about 1-3/4" thick, not much bigger than a typical automobile remote control.

The increasing quantities of interested users of these fabulous new-age products has taken us by surprise. Other products in the range include hardwired safe locks, cabinet locks, Euro style key cylinders, Swiss style entrance sets and a unique wireless standalone deadbolt for versatile uses.

Smartlocks - New Generation Lock Products Need Mechanical Backups

    $
    0
    0
Smartlocks appear to be all the rage today. We have written about many different offerings that have come about in the last few years including August, Goji, Lockitron, Yale and others.

Many of these "startups", have sought funding through crowd-funding campaigns and few have successfully released to the market.

An article we read today explains about the lack of foresight from many of these "new-age" manufacturers. Specifically, the deliberate removal of mechanical override cylinders from offerings. Mechanical override is a vital component in intelligent smart locks because, if the batteries are flat or there is a weather related malfunction or other issue, NOT getting locked out would seem to be an integral backup plan, no?

Customers across the marketplace are quickly understanding and appreciating the benefits of smart locks but may seem to be returning in droves to the old and time tested mechanical security options that have proven to maintain reliability.

I have installed multiple wireless access control deadbolts for particular customers over the last few years and I have always strongly recommended a mechanical key override, just in case. Glad i did so too, especially with one particular customer who let their batteries run flat and resorted to just using the override key. (effectively defeating the purpose of the "smart" function)

In the source below, find the article i read. There, the author explains how his wife was locked out of their home due to a malfunctioning product. Now, she refuses to use the "smart" component and only uses her mechanical key.

The author also explains how the established industry manufacturers also realized the benefits of the mechanical override backup and include them deliberately with their offerings.

iLOQ NFC - World's First NFC Powered Wireless Battery-Less Lock Cylinder System

    $

About 5-1/2 years ago, we posted an article on this site about the fabulous iLOQ lock system

Recent news from this forward thinking Finnish company, introduces the world to their latest invention. An NFC (near field communication) powered, wireless and battery-less lock cylinder system.

This advancement in mechanical cylinder technology, changes things for homeowners, institutions, hospitals, office buildings, doctors surgeries and almost anywhere a mechanical key lock can exist.

The iLOQ system is unique and different to other manufacturers creations that predominantly use hard wired or battery powered electronic power systems to provide access control.

As shown in the video below, the iLOQ technology is state of the art and can be applied to small, medium and even large complex key systems.

iLOQ introduced their new product, a couple of days ago at Cebit 2016 in Hanover, Germany.
The product changes the playing field for many smartphone users in that now you can control entry to authorized (NFC) phone users like Android and (soon to be included) Apple smartphone products. (see the NFC video after the break)

Following the impressive key powered original system with this new NFC powered product is considered a natural evolution in this unique technology.
The NFC powered product is explained in this animated video

Currently designed for use in many European countries, increasing demand from the USA and other western countries is empowering the manufacturers of iLOQ to design and produce their cylinder range for the lucrative North American market. There is no word on a release date for products in North America, although we expect it not to be too long.

Some of the benefits of this technology include:

    • Phone is the key: you can create, revoke and share access rights over the air easily and securely anywhere with just one click on a cloud service. There is no need for heavy IT infrastrusture.
    • Easy Installation: you can replace existing locks with iLOQ NFC Locks without drilling or wiring
    • Maintenance Free: No batteries to replace and no keyway to be serviced.
    • Fits Harsh Environments: Dust and weather resistant from the knob side
    • High Security: state of the art high security using PKI mutual authentication and strong AES-256 encryption, when the lock is operated, the event can be reported back to the cloud service in real time.
    • Widely Compatible: the iLOQ NFC app is compatible with Android phones. An iPhone app will be launched as soon as Apple opens up NFC in it's devices for developers. Users with no compatible phone can use the NFC-based iLOQ fob.
    • Environmentally friendly: by minimizing battery waste

Recently we attended the 39th Annual St Louis Home And Garden Show at the America Center in downtown St Louis, Missouri where we learned from the many passing customers of their desire for keyless access control products. Many appear to be unsatisfied with the current range of products available in today's market.

The obvious advantages that a product like iLOQ can bring, justifies forward thinking companies to continue to expand the boundaries of intelligent design and efficiency.

Breaking News!! Lockwood Australia, the Assa-Abloy manufacturer of the leading door hardware products in the southern hemisphere will release this coming July, 2016, another adaption of their fabulous Keyed Pocket Door Lock.

The Lockwood 7444 Keyed Pocket Door Lock (pictured above) has been on the market about 5 years now and our sales have continued to be stellar in the wider North American market.

Many discerning customers, across the Americas have realized that once in a while a product surfaces that changes the world. Remember Apple's iPhone? or Google's Android OS? Many modern manufacturers capitalized on the Google owned operating system releasing competing smart-phone products in the mobile/cellular phone arena.

We started selling the fabulous Lockwood 7444 Keyed Pocket Door Lock a little over 5 years ago and have enjoyed stellar sales, thank you.

As shown in the video on our sister site, the ease of installation of this superbly designed product, answers the needs of many customers hoping to secure their cavity/pocket doors.

We have happily sold many hundreds of this product over the last 5 years and so far, luckily, we are yet to receive any negative reviews. Yes, we have honored the warranty twice for people who have chosen to return the product for a refund. We have once had to provide an extra strike plate because of an installation error. We have done so, because we believe in our product offerings and feel our reputation for quality is proven by the products and services we provide.

Lockwood made me aware recently of their intention to finally release an identical version of the Lockwood 7444 Keyed Pocket Door Lock but for 45mm/1-3/4" thick doors, answering the call from a great many inquiries to that effect.

They anticipate a late July, 2016 release and we are hoping to have inventory around September or October 2016.

Stay tuned for updates. We will release additional news as soon as it comes to hand.

Bilock Exclusive - New Updated Bilock High Security, Bump Proof And Virtually Pick Proof Key System.

These are the color ranges of the new Bilock Exclusive key system. We previously mentioned that Bilock would be releasing their new product that offers increased patent protection right through to 2035, in a December article.

The new product dramatically increases the security of the system, while doing away with the trigger system in the New Generation system.

The New Generation system used a single side-bar blocking pin and 13th pin to increase the pick resistance of their previous offering. The patented Quick Change core removal system has been completely overhauled and is now way more effective than the previous iteration.

There is a video in the source below that explains all about this new and improved system.

Essentially, Bilock have replaced the trigger system with a more effective double-action trigger system that does not require a separate trigger. The new system uses specifically coded side pins that engage the side-bar in a unique fashion and directly increases the pick protection.

Previously, any key could have been converted into a core removal key. The new style makes a purposely designed control key to remove and replace cores.

Master keying is still available with up to 17 million potential key changes in a system.

The older New Generation system is still available for purchase and still being produced and we continue to build these systems for our discerning customers.

The other updated component of Bilock Exclusive is the addition of MiFare chips that can be embedded into the key-heads to operate effortlessly with many modern electronic access control and alarm systems.

For an in-depth explanation of the new Bilock Exclusive product, click on the source below and watch the video at the bottom.

Lockwood 7444 Keyed Pocket Door Lock - New Inventory Just Arrived And Available For Purchase Now

UPDATE: Our fabulous and in-demand product, the Lockwood 7444 Keyed Pocket Door Lock is now back in stock, with new inventory having just arrived.

We just updated the purchase page and thank our  customers for their patience.

The new model, tailored to suit thicker doors of 1-3/4" (45mm) has not been released yet, although we are informed that they will be available about August. We expect to have new supply of this new model shortly thereafter.

The quantity of inquiries we are continuing to receive for the in-stock Lockwood 7444 continues to surprise us. The recent inquiries for the new 1-3/4" door model is exceeding our expectations.

Many customers across North America have 1-3/4" thick doors and some have purchased the 1-3/8" version, thinking they could just adapt it to suit the thicker doors. They can, although installation requires a little modification to your door for perfect fitting.

Until the newer model is released, we suggest purchasers who wish to install to the thicker doors, countersink the crossbore holes about 3/16" from each side. This will enable the lock body to seat correctly in your door and make connecting the screws simpler, with the activation mechanism correctly activating the bolt mechanism.

To purchase, simply click on the product image at the top left of this page and be directed to our sister site with purchase and shipping options.

Thanks again for the continued interest and your patience.

Meroni Pigio 1 Installed To High Traffic Doors In An Upmarket Car Dealership

A couple of weeks ago, we completed an installation of some Meroni Pigio 1 Passage Sets to high traffic doors in a car dealership

    Before

    After Installation - external

Here is an image of the issue we faced. The existing mortise lock handle hardware kept falling off due to overuse.
    After Installation - internal

    After Installation - edge
    Before Installation - internal
    Before Installation - external

The install was painless and straightforward. We used Don-Jo renovator kits to modify the edge fittings.

We also installed Rockwood Push Plates to cover the existing holes left by the old hardware.

These Push-Pull handles are made from high-quality materials and require very little effort to operate. They look good and are easily used by management and also mechanics in the workshop who can often be a little heavy handed with handles they use. (you can see the make-shift tape they had put into use because of the problem they were facing)

Now, they dont even need to use a dirty hand to operate these handles. they can pull the doors open with their arm easily and push them open from inside, even when their arms are full of parts from the supply shop.

Here is a little video that shows how the product looks and operates...
